Abakada Coffee: Building the Digital Side of a Filipino Coffee Brand

Rekreate Digital has been Abakada Coffee's digital partner: the website, the synced digital menu, an owned Starbucks-style rewards web app, and a social engine that grew the following from roughly 1,000 to 8,000+. Built alongside the brand's run from a single roadside espresso cart to three branches across Metro Manila. A Filipino F&B marketing and web development case study for coffee shop and brick-and-mortar founders.

Abakada Coffee: Building the Digital Side of a Filipino Coffee Brand

Client overview

Abakada Coffee is a Filipino roadside espresso bar that started where most great Manila coffee stories start — a single mobile cart on Gen. T. De Leon Road, serving neighbors who'd stop on their way home from work. The name itself is a quiet promise: abakada is the Filipino alphabet, the first thing a Filipino kid learns. Starting from the basics. Building one letter at a time.

That was the brief. Coffee with intention. Filipino-first. Community-rooted. And — eventually — scalable.

Today, Abakada Coffee runs three branches across Caloocan and Valenzuela, with a full digital footprint that holds its own next to international chains operating in the Philippines. The business — the cart, the kiosks, the three branches, the menu decisions, the team, the daily operations — is the owner and founder's work. Every cup of coffee Abakada has served is the result of the founder's vision, hustle, and care for the brand. We want that credit clear before we go any further.

What Rekreate Digital has been responsible for is the digital side of Abakada Coffee — the part of the brand that lives on a screen. The website, the digital menu, the rewards web app, the social media presence, the local SEO. We've been Abakada's digital partner alongside the brand's physical growth, not the engine behind that growth.

The relationship

This is a partnership story before it's a deliverables story.

Rekreate Digital's founder, Ryan Kyle Ocampo, lives near the Abakada owner. Literally a neighbor. Ryan was there for the coffee cart days — the early mornings, the first regulars, the back-and-forth about what to call the brand. When the owner started thinking about a website, a menu, a way to scale beyond the cart, Ryan didn't pitch. He helped.

That foundation matters because Abakada's brief was never "give us a big-agency look." The brief was: minimalism, simplicity, and a digital presence that breathes the same air as the cafe itself — warm, Filipino, unhurried. A brand kit you'd actually trust to make your morning coffee.

The journey, in order

This is the founder's journey, and it does most of the talking. From one mobile coffee cart parked on the side of the road in Valenzuela, to a kiosk, to a first storefront, to a second, to a third — each location is the founder's milestone. Rekreate's job has been to make sure the digital side of the brand moved with it, so the website, the menu, and the social feed always reflected the Abakada you'd actually walk into.

The challenge

Most brick-and-mortar coffee shops in the Philippines hit the same wall when they try to scale. The brand works in person. The barista is friendly. The latte is good. But the digital experience never matches the in-shop experience — and that mismatch costs them growth.

Abakada needed:

  • A website that introduces the brand to first-time visitors and felt as considered as the shop itself
  • A digital menu that worked across all three branches — fast, mobile-first, no PDFs, no app downloads
  • A rewards application so regulars had a real reason to keep coming back beyond the espresso itself
  • A content engine that fed Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok without diluting the brand voice
  • Search visibility for the kind of customers who Google "best coffee shop in Caloocan" or "coffee near Valenzuela"

And it all had to land on the same minimalist, Filipino-rooted brand kit. No SaaS-template aesthetic. No corporate gloss.

Our approach

We treated Abakada Coffee like a brand we'd been running ourselves — which, given the proximity, was close to the truth. Every digital touchpoint had to feel like the same product, owned by the same hands. The cup, the storefront, the homepage, the rewards screen — one voice.

We split the work into three digital products, then wrapped them in a content layer that kept everything alive.

What we built

1. The brand website — abakadacoffee.com

A clean, minimalist marketing site that introduces the brand and ushers visitors toward the things they actually want — the menu, the branch locations, the rewards app. Built mobile-first because most coffee-shop searches happen on the way out the door, on someone's phone, with one hand free.

The visual language pulls from the coffee shop itself: warm neutrals, a single accent color, generous whitespace, photography that looks like the shop on a slow Sunday morning. No stock imagery. No carousel of testimonials. Just the brand, doing its job.

2. The digital menu — menu.abakadacoffee.com

This is the workhorse. Customers scan a QR code at the counter and land on a fast, branded menu — categorized by Beverages (Vietnamese, Espresso, Shaken Espresso, Non-Coffee, Matcha, Refreshers, Frappés) and Food (Pandan Waffles, Bites, Sandwiches, Pasta). Prices update instantly across all three branches when the team changes them. No reprinting. No PDF downloads. No app installs.

For a small business managing three locations, this is the difference between "oh we have a new latte but the printed menu is from last quarter" and "the change goes live across every branch the moment we save."

3. The rewards web app — app.abakadacoffee.com

The Starbucks-style loyalty experience, but built as a web application — no app-store install, no friction. Customers earn points on every purchase, track their progress toward free drinks and merch, and stay connected to the brand between visits.

Web apps in the Philippines win where native apps lose: Filipinos are mobile-first, but storage on entry-level Android phones is precious. A web-based rewards system means a barista can onboard a new customer in 30 seconds at the counter — no download, no friction, just a link.

4. Social media + content production

We run Abakada's social media end-to-end — Instagram, Facebook, TikTok. Every asset on their feed (photos, reels, behind-the-scenes content, branch openings, drink launches) is produced in-house by the Rekreate team and the founders. Same voice. Same aesthetic. Same brand kit.

The result is a feed that doesn't read as marketing — it reads as a coffee shop documenting itself. Which is exactly what good F&B content should look like.

When the partnership started, Abakada's social following was around 1,000. Today it's 8,000+ and growing — a community that buys coffee, attends branch openings, tags the brand in their morning routine, and shows up at every new location on day one.

5. SEO for local discovery

Search visibility for a brick-and-mortar Filipino coffee shop isn't a national play — it's hyperlocal. We optimized Abakada's digital footprint for the searches that actually convert: "coffee shop Caloocan", "coffee near Valenzuela", "best espresso bar Metro Manila". Every branch has its own location signal, its own Google Business Profile, and its own footprint on the menu site so it can be discovered independently.

The outcome

We want to be clear about which side of this case study is whose:

What belongs to Abakada Coffee's founder and team: The business itself. The cart days. The decision to open a kiosk. The first storefront. The second. The third. The menu, the coffee, the team, the customer relationships, the community that walks through the door every morning. Three branches across Caloocan and Valenzuela is the founder's win — it's the result of years of disciplined, day-in-day-out small-business work that no agency can take credit for.

What Rekreate Digital is responsible for: The digital side of the brand. The deliverables you can verify with a tap:

  • abakadacoffee.com — the brand website
  • menu.abakadacoffee.com — the digital menu, synced across all branches
  • app.abakadacoffee.com — the Starbucks-style rewards web app
  • @abakadacoffee on Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok — grown from roughly 1,000 followers to 8,000+, with all content produced in-house by the Rekreate team alongside the Abakada team
  • Local SEO presence across Caloocan, Valenzuela, and Greater Metro Manila so the brand surfaces when someone Googles "coffee shop near me" in those areas

Three digital products. One content engine. One brand voice. Built alongside Abakada through every stage of its growth.

What this means for other Filipino coffee shop and F&B founders

If you run a coffee shop, a cafe, a restaurant, a bakery, a kitchen — or any brick-and-mortar food and beverage business in the Philippines — there's a real cost to leaving your digital presence as an afterthought.

The cafe is beautiful. The coffee is great. But the Instagram is inconsistent. The menu is a PDF. There's no loyalty program. The website is a one-page Wix template. Google has no idea your second branch exists. That mismatch quietly costs you customers — every day.

Abakada Coffee shows what's possible when you treat the digital side with the same care as the in-shop experience. Same brand kit. Same intention. Same hands behind every touchpoint. The cup, the menu, the homepage, the rewards screen — one voice.

The founder builds the business. We build the digital side of it. The two stay aligned, and the brand grows up looking like one thing instead of seven half-finished things.

If that's the kind of digital partner you've been looking for — a Filipino agency that gets F&B, gets brick-and-mortar, and can build the website, digital menu, loyalty app, and content engine you actually need — let's talk. We'd love to do the same for your brand.

Common questions from coffee shop and F&B founders

How long does a project like this take? A complete build of website + digital menu + rewards web app + initial social content takes roughly 8–12 weeks. Ongoing social media management, content production, and SEO continues monthly afterward.

Do we have to use all of the services together? No. Some clients start with the website and digital menu, then add the rewards app later. Others bring us in for social media management only, while their existing developer maintains the website. We build whatever stack actually moves the needle for your business — not whatever's easiest to sell.

Is the rewards app expensive to run? It's a web app, not a native iOS/Android app, so there's no app store fees, no separate iOS/Android builds, and no app store review delays. Hosting costs scale gracefully with the number of users. For a small-to-mid F&B brand, it's a fraction of what an off-the-shelf loyalty platform would cost monthly — and you own the codebase outright.

Will this work for restaurants, not just coffee shops? Yes. The same stack — branded website, branded digital menu, branded rewards/loyalty layer, branded social — works for restaurants, bakeries, dessert shops, food halls, and any brick-and-mortar F&B brand. We're already in early conversations with several. Same playbook, different cuisine.

What about SEO for our specific city or neighborhood? Local SEO is the easiest win in F&B. If your competitors are running on stock Wix templates without proper local schema, location-specific pages, or branch-level Google Business Profiles, ranking for "coffee shop near me" in your area is genuinely achievable. We do this work as part of every brick-and-mortar engagement.
